The Cumbria Suzuki and Cumberland Building Society Floodlight Bowling Leagues remain wide open following the competition at Victoria Bowling Club.

In the Cumbria Suzuki Premier Division, Holme As title aspirations suffered a setback after they crashed to a 6-4 defeat to Windermere. The defeat for Holme leaves them in second place, while Victoria A continue to lead the way at the top despite having a free week.

Abbot Hall remained in contention after they defeated Netherfield 6-4 on Wednesday night. P Blamire and R Noble set the ball rolling for Abbot Hall after they saw off M Wilson and J Capstick 21-17.

Netherfield battled thanks to wins by R Crompton and B Bigland, along with J Barker and B Holmes. However J Strickland and Martin Wilson responded for Abbot Hall after they saw off D Nelson and Dave Mitchell 21-7. Before victory was assured after C Baines and M Tattersall defeated J Sarsfield and W Jermy 21-15.

At the bottom end of the division Burneside boosted their survival aspirations after they defeated Staveley 6-4. The win for Burneside sees them move level on points with Staveley, however Staveley have a game in hand and need to outscore their relegation rivals as they face Abbot Hall and Holme A in the last two rounds of the competition.

Victoria B defeated League leaders Lindale 6-4 in the Cumberland Building Society Floodlight League on Tuesday night. However despite the defeat Lindale could win the title, if both Victoria B and Milnthorpe fail to win their respective matches.

In the other games, Heversham edged out Milnthorpe 6-4, Milnthorpe had started well thanks to wins by R Gaskell and D Craig, before R Ashburner and M Benson picked up a 21-17 win over Heversham's N Morris and R Martindale.

However Heversham battled back, through N Dodds and D Herd who defeated B Nelson and R Wallbeck 21-18,before P Shaw and C Harrison eased past Milnthorpe B Morris and H Wallbeck 21-6.

Heversham sealed the win after T Grindley and I Barrett saw off B Charlsworth and M Lamb 21-17.

In the final game Holme B routed bottom of the table Sedbergh 10-0, as Holme remained in fourth place.
