Kendal Ladies Hockey Club were in relentless form after they routed Wakefield 5-0 at the Cinder Ovens playing surface in Kendal.

Nicola Conway’s youthful side picked up a much-needed win after they impressed against a dangerous Wakefield Team.

Kendal started the game on the offensive and were 1-0 in front through Ebony Townley who scored her first goal of the season.

Townley was in the right place at the right time to collect a clinical pass by Conway, who was initially set up by debutant Leah Mitchell.

Kendal were soon 2-0 in front after Rhiannon Byrne-Bowles made a skilful run down the wing before supplying a ball across the box to Townley who scored her second of the afternoon.

The relentless nature of Kendal's attack was difficult for Wakefield to handle as the youthful ladies were rampant.

Kendal added a third just before half time as Byrne-Bowles capitalised on some fast play in the D before driving the ball home past the keeper.

The second half was played at a high intensity as Kendal continued to play fast, free flowing hockey.

Kendal found themselves 4-0 up after Vicky Whalley-Jones worked through Wakefield's defensive and slapped the ball into the net.

Man of the match Byrne-Bowles claimed her second and Kendal's fifth of the encounter after her strong reverse shot was lifted into the goal.

The game saw the return of injured Kendal goalkeeper Fiona Morphet who cleared all of Wakefield's chances giving her a clean sheet and Kendal the 5-0 win.

The ladies travel away to Durham University seconds on Saturday hoping to gain another three points.
