Ulverston Otters are now in full swing in their efforts to reach their peak for the Scottish National Championships which are being held in the Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh.

The team made the journey to Manchester to take part in a Stockport Metro Meet; a major event that attracts top swimmers, including some from abroad.

Swimmers Tom Robinson, Amy Richardson, Nicola Capstick and Amelia Mardel were all qualified for multiple events.

Eleven year-old Mardel continued to gain experience at higher levels, opening her account in the 100 Freestyle with an outstanding piece of swimming to take 6th place in her Age Group with a Personal Best time of 1:07.65.

She exceeded all her expectations in the 50 Breaststroke. Getting a great start off the block and out of her transition she then piled on the pressure and with an immaculate turn and transition, resulting in a storming finish where she took a brilliant 2nd place in 38.48.

Capstick was also in fantastic form and produced a range of performances to be proud of in all her events.

On day two she really excelled, first at 50 Freestyle where she got her time under 30 seconds to set a new personal best of 28.14.

She then went on to take the silver medal at 50 breaststroke in 29.89, another time under 30 secs for the first time in her career.

Richardson similarly entered in a number of events ranging from Backstroke, Freestyle to Butterfly, swam well up to her P.B.s for 50 and 100 Butterfly, taking a respectable 5th place in the shorter sprint.

Her best effort came in the 100 Freestyle where she showed all her fine technique and talent to lower her own P.B. to 59.9; another first, like her team mate Capstick.

Although just missing out on the medals Robinson had some of his finest results to date.

His 200 Butterfly and immaculate stroke pattern got him a 4th place in a brilliant P.B. time of 2:11.80.

His all round ability then brought him two more P.B.s, a 1:03.07 for the 100 Individual Medley and a 2:15.00 for the 200.

He then turned to the sprints and took a well judged 5th place in the 50 Backstroke to complete a highly satisfactory outing for the swimmers and Coaches.
