Kendal swimmers made another trip to Blackpool seeking to better their times as well as winning medals.

Scott Womack was in brilliant form and using all his power, skill and sprinting ability he took a clean sweep of the Gold medals available in the 16-year age group.

At 50 Backstroke he got a great start and from then on looked comfortable and full of confidence as he cruised to an easy victory. In 50 Breaststroke and 50 Butterfly he continued to stamp his authority on the races by taking Gold and then snatched the 100 Individual Medley title to add to his clutch.

Some of the best races of the day involved three of Kendal’s 10-year-old girls. Emma Capstick, Sophie Roberts and Elodie Malcolm fought some epic battles despite being club mates, battling it out shoulder to shoulder and giving nothing and taking top three places.

Capstick had the greatest success taking four of the gold medals on offer whilst Malcolm swam brilliantly to take four Bronze and a Silver. However Roberts, having to accept Silver for 50 Free and 100 Ind Medley turned the tables on Capstick and stormed to Gold medal in the 50 Butterfly.

More Gold medals went to Freya Capstick who peaked just at the right time and though entered in only three of the events, she won each one in fine style.

Megan Jones (50 Butterfly and 50 Freestyle) and Bethan Rowley (50 Backstroke and 50 Breaststroke) both collected double Gold confirming their strength at sprinting. Rowley also went on to win a Silver and Bronze, while Lucy Sargeant drove her way to Gold in the 50 Breaststroke she too went on to add two Silver and a Bronze to her name.

But it wasn’t just the girls enjoying success. Ollie Sargeant, James Escolme and Jacob Klijn all came up with triple Gold with some brilliant swimming. Sargeant was at his supreme best at Breaststroke and Backstroke, then again pulling it all together to win the 100 Individual Medal. 10-year-old James Escolme, full of confidence and talent took it on in his three events and pulled off fine wins with a fair degree of ease. The fast maturing Jacob Klijn got great starts at Backstroke, Breaststroke and 100 Individual Medley to give himself a window of opportunity to which the opposition had no answer. He also put in an outstanding swim at 50 Freestyle, but had to be content with Silver.

A host of minor medals went to Kendal’s squad with Thomas Klijn, Leon Priestley Nying, Alex Walton, Luke Atkinson, Ian Bethell, Idris Morgan, Adam Stansfield, Oliver Woodburn, Oliver Beresford, Natalie Pinder, Emily Westmorland, Chloe Westmorland and Eve Murray all getting their names on the medals board and coming home well pleased with their efforts..
