CUMBRIA Swimming Association staged a two-day meet at Kendal’s Leisure Centre and Ulverston’s Otters came away with some fantastic results.

Felicity Boyle, 10, was outstanding with a haul of 10 medals, eight of which were gold. On day one she pulled off a devastating win in the 400 Freestyle taking the race by storm. She produced another outstanding effort in the 100 Individual Medley, having too much skill and talent for her opponents for another easy victory. Her second day saw her continue with winning ways with more Gold-winning efforts. Again she excelled in the longer distances and in the 100 Breaststroke had to pull out something extra to win on the touch.

Amelia Mardel also had a highly successful meet coming away with a clutch of eleven medals. In the 200 Individual Medley she got a great start and through Butterfly and Backstroke kept well in the mix, then turned on the screws at Breaststroke and pushed ahead, holding off challenges in Freestyle for a well judged win. The 100 Breaststroke saw her put herself in a position to bid for success. Getting an early window of advantage and staying composed and focused she forged ahead and with her skilful stroke pattern swam a fantastic race. Mardel then gave a repeat performance in the 200 Breaststroke maintaining her dominance at this stroke to give her another comfortable win.

There then followed amazing results for the Sharp sisters Orianne and Indya who totted up a total of fourteen medals between them. They started off with a Gold for Orianne in the 100 Backstroke. Indya also took Gold at 50 Butterfly delivering another one of her powerhouse pieces of sprinting to triumph in a storming finish. The sisters then went on collect six Silver and six Bronze between them with impressive displays at all strokes and distances.

Freestyle specialist Shannon Parker was another Gold medallist snatching wins in blanket finishes in both the 50 and 100 Freestyle, while 11-year-old Adam Jones worked hard to gather up a full set of Gold, Silver and Bronze, with Gold coming from an outstanding swim at 100 Individual Medley. More minor medals went to Phillip Crayston, Anna Morrison, Ashton Stoker and Annabelle Crayston to complete a great outcome for the Club.
