KENDAL welcomed Lancaster University to the Cinder Ovens pitch at Kirkbie Kendal school this weekend despite the poor weather.

The match started with both teams playing good hockey. There was positive play from each side as the game flowed from end to end.

Despite Kendal having good chances to score, the Lancaster keeper was in fine form and it was the away team who opened the scoring.

Converting two penalty corners in quick succession, the university team showed their strength at set plays.

Kendal were not downhearted however, and soon struck back. Ewan Galloway finished with a strong strike after good work from Aaron Screen, Aryton Boyd and Jack Kerr.

Kendal started the second half with high intensity, and hunting in packs they refused to let Lancaster out of their half. It wasn't long before the scores were levelled, captain Nick Davis slammed the ball home from a well worked penalty corner.

The home side continued to press their opposition back. Man-of-the-match Mark Addison put in his usual tireless shift as he harassed and harried the opposition midfield. Jacob Ross looked more than comfortable as he made his first team debut and Brody Croskell also put in a strong performance.

Unfortunately for Kendal, the away side broke quickly and earned a penalty corner, which once again they converted.

Despite Kendal's efforts another goal would not come for them and before long Lancaster began to gain more of the ball. The away side were well organised and had pace to spare. Scoring twice more with good moves Lancaster put the game beyond Kendal's reach to ultimately win 5-2.
