In an Open Age Group Gala at Kendal the local squad came up with a total of 54 entries.

The team enjoyed a day of outstanding success coming away with a grand total of 77 medals and a host of Personal Bests and Qualifying Times.

Eleven of the swimmers emerged with 29 gold medals between them with Elliot Woodburn claiming - 6, James Escolme - 5, Megan Jones - 4 and Jake Gibson - 4.

Woodburn and Escolme were both at the top of their form with Woodburn reigning supreme at the 50m Sprints where he took three of the four titles. Escolme had too much skill at butterfly and breaststroke and timing his finishes to perfection comfortably took the 50m and 100m Golds.

Jones got off to great starts at 50m and 100m backstroke and setting the pace led from the start and timing her finishes to perfection came through to win.

She followed these up with wins at 50m freestyle and the all round 100m individual medley, where she gave an exhibition of all round skill and talent that her rivals had no answer to.

In tackling the 50m sprints, up and coming 9-year-old Jake Gibson put himself on the front and set a devastating pace in the backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle.

He then pulled off a win to take the 100m individual medley with a perfect use of all four strokes.

Caitlin Deegan came up with a marvellous hat trick of golds at 50m and 100m freestyle and then pulled clear of her adversaries to snatch a gold at 50m backstroke.

Emma Capstick and Josie Johnson both completed a double gold with swims to be proud of. At 50m breaststroke and 100m freestyle Capstick stayed focused and from the start fighting off all challenges and into the last length moved up a gear to come through and win.

Johnson was in similar mode at 50m butterfly and 100m breaststroke forcing the pace and into the last length she too began to wind it up and in storming finishes did enough to win.

More success came the Club’s way with Gold Medals going to Mathew Gibson (100m breaststroke), Oliver Woodburn (100m breaststroke), Louie Tideswell (50m backstroke) and Erin Bagge (100m freestyle).

Among these top places came a host of minor awards with a total of 25 silver medals and 23 bronze.

Pleasing to see were the efforts of the Club’s up and coming future stars such as Tia Doherty, Reece Kinley, Chloe Westmorland, Eve Murray, Keira Nelson and Sophie Roberts.

To complete an excellent day for Kendal’s supporters the exciting “skins” events saw Jones and Johnson qualify for the over 12’s, Keira Nelson with Lucie Bulman the U/12s and Elliot Woodburn and Escombe also making the boy’s under U/12’s which Woodburn won with a super piece of swimming.
