Carus Green Golf Club is gearing up to host one of the biggest golf tournaments in the industry.

The Trilby Tour Championship of Cumbria, will take place next Thursday June 22, with a record number of visitors expected to descend on the Burneside-based club.

The prestigious amateur golf tournament, now celebrating its 10th anniversary, is hosting a series of regional championships across the UK to find the top ten from each to earn their place at the International Grand Final, which is being held this year at Hull Golf Club on August 31.

The top players from across the nation will then battle it out to find the Trilby Tour World Champion for 2017.

The appeal of the unique tournament lies in its unusual competitive format, with the top four players on the day going in to a three-hole shootout to decide the champion.

Golfers have hailed the Trilby Tour as the closest experience to a professional tournament, playing under the pressures of an international televised event, accompanied by their own caddies, with die-hard fans returning year after year gripped by its fierce ‘winner takes all’ competitive format.

This year, each regional championship will be broadcast on Sky Sports as part of the Trilby Tour series and with annual viewership figures of more than 3.5 million in 2015, the Trilby Tour is officially the largest amateur golf television series in the UK and Europe.

Club owner Graham Curtin said: "It is a huge honour to be hosting the Cumbrian regional championship of this year’s Trilby Tour and we hope that local people from Kendal and the surrounding area will come down and join us for what should be an extraordinary and fun day.

“It is an enormously prestigious event which puts not just Carus Green – but the county – on the map. We are keeping our fingers crossed for fine conditions!”
