THE LADY members of Carus Green golf club in Burneside were treated to an excellent day last week at Lady Captain’s day and in addition, did their ‘bit’ for Breast Cancer Now, raising £172.60.

Current Lady Captain, Greta Farnsworth, created a fun environment, with more than 35 ladies taking part in the four-ball better ball competition, with members Janet Ingham and Chris Gray winning the tournament with a score of 36 points.

Carus’ Golf and Clubhouse Manager, Margaret Bebington, also won the longest drive and nearest the pin contest and with her team, and came third in the competition overall.

Lunch was provided in the modern, new Sports Bar, part of the £500,000 extension which opened in June. The money was raised from a number of donated prizes which were raffled off following the tournament. A number of ladies had also baked and sold cakes, which contributed to the overall amount raised.

Breast Cancer Now is the UK’s largest breast cancer charity, created by the merger of Breast Cancer Campaign and Breakthrough Breast Cancer. It supports almost 450 researchers across the UK and Ireland, who work to find ways to prevent, detect, treat and stop breast cancer.

“We all enjoyed a tremendous day and were delighted to be able to raise a considerable sum for Breast Cancer Now,” said Greta, who together with the other ladies, wore a pink outfit to demonstrate support for the cause. “The ladies enjoyed themselves and the event was a great success. I should like to thank everyone involved in the day for making it so special.”
