Natland B eased themselves away from the bottom of Division 1 of the Kendal & District Table Tennis League, as a result of a hard fought 6-4 victory against Dallam A.

Two wins apiece from Tamas Bacsi and Mark Ashburn and one from Andrea Jorkisch, along with victory in the doubles, secured six valuable points for Natland in their efforts to avoid an end of season relegation play-off match.

Dallam’s James Neal was man of the match with three singles wins including five game victories against both Tamas Bacsi and Andrea Jorkisch. Meanwhile, Natland A consolidated their position at the top with a comfortable 7-3 defeat of Burton A.

Roger Pimblett was unbeaten in the singles, including a rare victory against his nemesis, Peter Baxendale. John Fearon and Louise Thompson also each won two singles matches for Natland.

Two wins for Peter Baxendale and victory in the doubles for brother Stephen slowed down the Natland steamroller.

In Division Two, Burton B and Natland D have opened up a big gap at the top of the Division.

The Natland D team of Mick Taylor, Devun Whitehead and Archie Catnach were far too good for their own C team, winning all nine singles matches. Victory in the doubles for Rin Colombi and Bernard Pickthall prevented a whitewash.

Crook C are top of Division Three following a 27-11 victory against Dallam C. The evergreen Norman Philbey prevented a Crook whitewash with two wins in the singles including a tantalising 12-14, 11-7, 11-6, 10-12, 11-8 win against John Hardwick.

The annual Kendal and District Table Tennis League Junior Tournament will take place at the Kendal Leisure Centre on Friday, December 29, 10-4. Anyone under the age of 15, who is a member of a club which is a part of the League, can enter.
