KENDAL Amateur Swimming and Water Polo Club continue to thrive with weekly Junior Water Polo sessions at Kendal Leisure Centre.

Water polo has taken Kendal by storm, with the participation in both senior and junior water polo seeing a significant increase.

The junior training sessions have seen the participation go up from eight to 16 players, while the senior team are set to make a comeback after taking a year out.

Kendal’s Water Polo group held a constructive training session where a competitive but friendly game was played as the aspiring youngsters showed plenty of skill and promise for the future.

The junior team recently took part in a development tournament in Lancaster and are looking to arrange another tournament in the future.

Water polo is a competitive team sport played in the water between two teams. The game consists of four quarters, usually of eight minutes, in which the two teams attempt to score goals and throw the ball into their opponent's goal. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match.

Each team made up of six field players and one goalkeeper. Except for the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. The goalkeeper is allowed to use two hands at all times. Water polo is typically played in an all-deep pool seven feet (or two metres) deep.

Kendal’s Junior Team train at Kendal Leisure Centre, on Sundays between 4 and 5pm, while the senior team train on Thursday nights between 9 and 10pm.
