A PROFESSIONAL boxing referee from Kendal is set to enter the ring with celebrities for Sport Relief before jetting off to officiate at the Commonwealth Games.

Alvin Finch, one of the top 50 ranked boxing referees in the world, will run the rule over a variety of stars in coming weeks.

Ex-footballer Wayne Bridge will go head to head with television personality Spencer Matthews whilst singer and actress Hannah Spearritt (pictured below) will get inside the ring with The Saturdays star Vanessa White.

After putting themselves through a gruelling training programme, the stars will battle it out on BBC One during Sport Relief’s Night of TV, which is aired on Friday March 23.

After that, he will fly out to Australia to be part of the 28-strong refereeing team for the The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

"It's an honour and I'm looking forward to meeting celebrities that I haven't met or didn't think I would meet," said Mr Finch.

"I'm looking forward to it and it's a nice sweetener for flying out to Australia the following week.

"My aim for the last three of four years has been to get to the Commonwealth Games so I'm really looking forward to it."
