CARUS Green Golf Club’s golf manager, Margaret Bebington, and lady captain, Ali Dufty, are celebrating following an exciting win at the Daily Mail’s annual foursomes competition.

Margaret and Ali, who play off nine and 23 respectively, battled it out on the 21st hole at Morecambe Golf Club in a sudden death play-off against Sue Greenwood and Helen Snowball. They are through to the fourth round to be played by 17 June.

Now in its 59th year, the Daily Mail Foursomes tournament is widely regarded as the greatest amateur golfing event in the world, with more than 190,000 players competing in their club qualifying rounds.

Having beaten Windermere golf club, Kirkby Stephen golf club and now Morecambe, Margaret and Ali are hoping to progress to the last 16 men’s and women’s pairs at the grand final, to be held at the St Pierre Marriott Hotel Spa in Monmouthshire, in October.

It’s been a tremendous season for Margaret who only last month won the Moulie Moore County Vets Best Nett Trophy championship by four strokes, against a field of 52 ladies, in addition to hitting a single-figure handicap.

“2018 is shaping up to be a great year for my golf and the win at Morecambe has given us lots of confidence entering the fourth round,” she said.

“It was an epic battle, but both Ali and I are delighted by the result and look forward to representing Carus Green when we go head-to-head with Kendal golf club in the next round.”
