CROWDS gathered at Whittington Races on Easter Saturday for a series of point to point races.

Several races were held by the Vale of Lune club on yet another successful day and Stuart Ross returned from an injury he picked up last year to take the confined race atop Reasonably Sure.

Chairman Mike Bowker said: “We had a successul day and we were fortunate that the weather leading up gave us a bit of rain.

“The ground had been drying up a bit and the going was getting firm but the rain and the water we put down meant the going was good.

“Some of the land on the course had been ploughed after last year and reseeded but it held up well.

Bowker said entries were similar to last year’s event but had fallen across the country.

He added: “It was a good day of racing and entries were similar to last year but probably a bit on the disappointing side. It is typical of point to point racing at the minute with other meetings to go to, not as many events being held and I think the economic climate is also affecting it.”
