JOE Elwood continued his winning form of late as Ulverston Otters collected six medals and 26 place badges at the County Championships in Whitehaven.

Elwood swam a magnificent race in the men's 200m backstroke to lift the 16/over group winners badge with a comfortable effort.

In the final he got off to a fast start with Luke Greenbank and shoulder to shoulder they burned off the opposition, but Elwood stormed to the wall in 2.03.13 to become the champion.

He then went on to add to his score with bronze medals following a blanket finish in the 100m freestyle and holding on to his place in the 200m butterfly.

Oliver Atkinson also lifted a fine silver medal in the junior men's 100m freestyle.

The Hevey sisters, Georgia and Victoria, both snatched bronze medals in close finishes with some brilliant sprinting, Victoria setting a time of 28.05 in the ladies 50m freestyle and Georgia set 36.34 in the ladies 50m breaststroke.

Alix Knagg, 13, led the club’s age group winners and opened her account with an all round swim in the 200m individual medley after a close battle with Cockermouth’s Rebecca Clark.

Her next win came in the 50m freestyle sprint where again she just managed to outpace Clark and snatch a brilliant win in 29.22.

Nine year old Taylor Aplin edged out Rebecca Wilson (Copeland) in the 200m individual medley and 11-year-old Rebecca Fell won the 50m breaststroke. Rhiannon Ellis, 12, was also a winner in 38.76.
