WITH Vale of Lune next up at Mint Bridge, hooker Duncan Green highlights greater unity within the Kendal squad as a major driving force behind recent form.

The Black and Ambers produced a polished first-half performance during their success at Altrincham Kersal, building on previous positive results against Warrington and Carlisle.

Kendal are fourth in League North One West with Green now eyeing a fourth straight win and a clean sweep of victories in January to end the month with a bang.

“I think we now have a confidence and a belief in ourselves as a squad, we’re quite settled in terms of the team and the coaches,” he said.

“The coaches that have come in since the first phase of the season have all bought into working together for the same aim which is to be as good as we can be.

“We’re all signing from the same hymn sheet now which perhaps wasn’t the case at the start of the campaign.

“We want to continue the momentum we have built in January. We managed to do that on Saturday at Altrincham with a good performance, particularly in the first-half.

“And we know we’ll have to work hard against Vale to repeat that but we’re working hard in training to do just that.”

Consecutive  away wins have made it four in total on the road this year, with Green glad Kendal’s away day blues appear a thing of the past.

“It was a long stretch without an away win and those results do build up in terms of pressure,” he added.

“But we finally won away at Carlisle and it was the classic case of a monkey off our back.

“On Saturday for instance we arrived at the ground and knew we just had to perform well, do our job and we’d get the result.

“Again, it all just comes back to confidence, playing as a team and believing in each other. Where we play is not an issue for us anymore.”

With more than 250 first-team games under his belt, Green is well-placed to assess the merits of Kendal’s pack and the 33-year-old is impressed by what he sees.

“We now have a good mix of young players coming through, Brad Jackson and Chris Evans both came off the bench on Saturday for example,” he said.

“James Cox has come in also and Reece Tomlinson is becoming more experienced in the second row.

“Our forwards can do a lot of damage while also giving the backs plenty of ball to work with. Everything is going well in that respect.”
