DENIED the opportunity to return to winning ways due to Saturday’s postponement, hooker Duncan Green insists the Black and Ambers are straining at the leash for a return to action.

A waterlogged Mint Bridge saw Saturday’s game with Leigh postponed, with the fixture rearranged for this weekend as Kendal look to bounce back from derby day defeat against Kirkby Lonsdale.

And compared with the style of play on show at Underley Park, Green is hopeful his side can showcase a more expansive brand of rugby – the sort which saw Kendal win four games on the bounce in January.

“All the boys can’t wait to have a game,” he said. “We had a hard week training last week and we’re now building up towards the game on Saturday – we’re desperate to return to form.

“The Kirkby match was a difficult one for us, we came up against a determined side in difficult conditions but we’re hoping to move on from that game now.

“In training we’ve been looking at mixing our game up a bit, against Kirkby we were a bit narrow and only really challenged them in one area.

“We want to get back to where we were in the New Year, which was playing good rugby and playing to our strengths. We need to bring our backs into the game a bit more.

“Our aim remains to get as many points as we can as we try and catch Widnes in third place.”

A last-gasp Garry Holmes try salved a draw for Kendal when they faced Leigh at Hand Lane earlier in the campaign.

And while the Greater Manchester side have only won two league games so far this season, Green is certainly not in the business of taking things for granted.

“It’s a good set-up at Leigh and despite their league position they are a good all-round side,” he added.

“They are going to be tough opposition and will be fighting for their league survival – we know how much that can change a team.

“Although we finished that game strongly back in October and could perhaps have won it at the end, we were in some ways fortunate to come away with a draw.

“We certainly won’t be taking them lightly. We’ll be concentrating on our performance but also bearing in mind they will be up for it as much as us.”
