KIRKBY Lonsdale RUFC vice captain Tom Pickthall said the squad was disappointed with their performance at Harrogate on Saturday.

They were hoping to build on the previous weekend's victory over league leaders Preston Grasshoppers, but instead fell to a 28-10 to the Yorkshire side.

"We were quite disappointed after the week before," he said. "We went into the game full of confidence and we just didn't really turn up.

"It was tough conditions but it was the same for both teams – they were maybe more fired up for it and played a more intelligent game."

The pitch at Harrogate was sodden upon Kirkby's arrival, but having made the journey, it was decided the game would go ahead.

"We had the discussion and took the decision to play," said Pickthall. "It was very wet on top and made handling the ball very difficult and it was hard work to play on."

This weekend, Kirkby host third-placed Hull at Underley Park in a rearranged fixture.

Pickthall said: "We don't really know that much about Hull other than they're at the top end of the table and the table doesn't lie, so they're there for a reason.

"It will be tricky and we're expecting a tough game.

"We need to go back to what we were doing against Preston. Our home form is reasonably good so we've got to have confidence, but they're a team we've not played before so there will be some surprises."
