A WIN away from home at Bradford and Bingley on Saturday and an exciting game in many ways, but lacking in our normal structure.
At times almost frenetic with offloads being attempted when a simple ruck would have given us pattern and allowed other players to know where to go next.
One thing was for sure the “Bees” can’t have known what we was going to come next because we didn’t!
After that though you couldn’t have knocked us for effort and the work that Matt Gracie has been doing as our new conditioning coach is showing with our strength in the latter stages of the game.
The big event last weekend was the opening game of this year’s Six Nations – England v Wales, and what a proud moment for John Owen walking out with Prince Harry to meet the teams.
It was one of John’s first jobs as The RFU President, a position John has earned for his work both locally and nationally developing and organising the game.
Everyone at the club hopes he enjoys the competition and his term in the Presidency.
This weekend while John may be enjoying a trip to Rome with England we will be busy with the more mundane trip to Harrogate who are just above us in the table and according to the forecast it is likely to be a little cooler than Stadio Flaminio.
Their record is similar to our own. They have played one more game with similar points for and against. After a good win against Preston three weeks ago they have lost to the high-flying Macclesfield and the resurgent Hull sides.
Their main threat comes from flyer Sam Bottomley who has notched up 11 tries so far, but their pack has always given us trouble with James Spencer at lock always proving to be difficult to play against.
Our first game against them proved to be pivotal and we grew in confidence from there. If we can show that fight and spirit on our visit to Claro Road we will push on with our drive up the table.
