Altrincham Kersal 50.

Kirkby Lonsdale 10.

FOR all the scoreline suggests, this was a spirited Kirkby performance by a reshuffled side that had Konzinski at scrum-half and fellow forwards Galbraith at full back and Close on the right wing.

It was not a good start with an Alt maul bringing an early try, followed by a yellow card for Cooper-Dunne before one of the home centres jinked a way through to go over close to the posts, creating a 14-0 deficit for the visitors.

Kirkby replied when Alt blatant offisde by Alt stopped an attack and Cleary kicked a good penalty.

Play evened up but Alt scored a third try when a speculative kick to the corner and a perfect bounce allowed the fast lef winger to cross for an unconverted try.

Just before half time Alt’s home backs put together a superlative move to score close to the post and for a 26-3 interval lead.

Kirkby came back in determined fashion and the forwards battle on the Alt line. Jim McLeod carried the ball to within inches of a score and made it available for Konzinski to pick up and dive over. Cleary converted to take Kirkby into double figures.

In an exciting contest, Voke and Limbrick has powerful runs, with Barton and clark covering well at centre, but Alt's pace told in the end as a multi-pass move brought another converted try.

The speed of the Alt back meants any turnover became a dangerous attack, and the home hooker could also fly a bit, scoring with a long run on the left.

Two late tries extended the gap to 50-10, but Kirkby will go to Wigton on Saturday with plenty of confidence for a good result.

n At Underley Park the Seconds had a good 46-0 win over Eccles to go second in Division 3 North of the University of Salford League.
