Penrith 25
Westmorland Barbarians 37
BARBARIANS gave their best performance of the season against a well-drilled Penrith side and returned to the South Lakes with a 37-25 victory.
Penrith made the early running with two breakaway tries and led 12-6 after 20 minutes – but visiting fly half Mike Johnson set up a fantastic move to send full back Alex Benjamin over in the corner.
Then a great break by Rory Blakeney-Edwards put his brother Jack into space and he scored under the posts to give the Baabaas an 18-12 half-time lead.
Penrith started the second half with real intent and turned their pressure in to points with a try.
The match continued to be a free-flowing end to end affair and Baabaas outside centre Rory Blakeney-Edwards went over in the corner, before Sam Jones extended the lead to 30-18 with a try of his own.
Penrith cut the gap to 30-25 but Rory Blakeney-Edwards had the last word, touching down under the posts to seal the win.
