North Lancs/Cumbria
Kirkby Lonsdale 18
St Benedicts 3
KIRKBY’s winning run continued at the top of the North Lancs/Cumbria League with victory over St Benedicts on Saturday.
The first 15 minutes was mainly Bennies pressure and they took the lead with a penalty but Chris Ramwell replied with a kick of his own as the sides went in level at the break.
Ramwell was having an excellent game in the second half and a beautiful pass to Martin Knapton resulted in a try by the right corner flag.
Ramwell missed his conversion but a second penalty soon after made it 11-3 in Kirkby’s favour.
Bennies were still dangerous and had their moments but Kirkby had shifted the balance.
The killer, match winning, blow came when Jack Akrigg ran in a fine try from just inside the Bennies 22, side-stepping and handing off defenders to core by the posts. Ramwell added the conversion for 18-3 but it was certainly an uncomfortable match for Kirkby who remain two points clear of Fleetwood at the top.
n Kirkby 2nds enjoyed a win over Preston Grass-hoppers 4ths.
