Jim Steel Memorial Match
Windermere Vets 19
Hawcoat Park Vets 43
VETERANS sides from Windermere and Hawcoat Park met at Dawes Meadow to play a match in celebration of the life of Jim Steel, a stalwart of Hawcoat Park, formerly Vickers RUFC.

The match was played in the best of spirits and rolling substitutes were allowed so that as many players as possible could participate – a rule that favoured Hawcoat Park as they took a squad of nearly 40 players.

It quickly became apparent that the Hawcoat Park side play regularly together, while many of the Windermere players were dusting off their boots for the first time in years.

Hawcoat started briskly and had three converted tries before Dan Blenkiron came on and touched down.

A few minutes later Rick Musetti took to the pitch for the Ambers and the crowd hoped that his pace would change the game. Sadly he only lasted a few minutes during which time Hawcoat brought the score to 31-5.

In the second half, Hawcoat extended their score to 43 and Windermere scored two more tries through Blenkiron to bring their total to 19.
