THE Lake District benefitted from a steep rise in the number of Britons holidaying at home this year.
New figures from VisitEngland reveal a 22 per cent rise in the number of holiday trips taken by British people in England, while the amount they spent increased by 20 per cent.
Among trends identified was a significant rise in people taking seaside holidays, benefiting the likes of Grange-over-Sands.
