Youth, 16, held in stab murder hunt

3:39pm Friday 18th July 2008

Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of a teenager in south Lambeth, London, have arrested a 16-year-old male, Scotland Yard said.

The youth was arrested at his home in the Brixton area early on Friday morning and is being held at a south London police station.

Officers were called to the scene in Guildford Road at 7.05pm on Thursday.

They were responding to reports of an assault in progress and found the victim, named locally as 18-year-old student Frederick Moody, suffering from one or more stab wounds to the stomach. He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead at 8.15pm.

Police said next of kin had been informed.

Officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command have been called in to investigate the incident.

Police said they are keeping an open mind about the motive for the killing.

On Thursday night, police cordoned off Guildford Road.

A forensic tent was set up in neighbouring Thorne Road and police were combing the area.

People who live on the road were not being allowed back into their homes while the cordon was in place.
