TWO ‘gritty’ youngsters have earned the praise of neighbours after using their trusty toy tractor to clear snow near outside their home.

Dressed in little flourescent vests, James Guy, eight, and his three-year-old brother Nathan, helped shift snow and spread grit in Romney Villas and Romney Avenue, Kendal.

Neighbour Celia Barber, who spotted them carrying out their good deed said: “The boys have been so helpful.

“We looked out and they had cleared a path right from their house in Romney Villas and round the corner into Romney Avenue.

“It is very rare to see children doing things like that. They are such good children and never get up to any mischief.”

James, who goes to Vicarage Park Primary School, said: “I wanted to help because I wanted to stop people from slipping and falling over.”

Proud mum Linda said: “When the snow first fell James went out on his little plastic sit-on tractor, all of his own accord.

“I was keeping an eye on him but wasn’t sure what he was up to.

"Our neighbour Celia came round and told us that somebody was clearing the snow away, so we followed the tracks and then realised it was James.

“Nathan then joined him with his plastic spade and they’ve been out clearing the paths and helping out. One of their friends Finn Howarth, who is five, also joined in.

“They just wanted to be helpful. James and Nathan are two boys who like to keep busy.”
