Totally gutted and quite shocked to find this notice announcing Jan's untimely death last year.
To Ian and family and all other nearest and dearest, please accept my sincere condolences.
I first had the honour, privilege and great luck to meet Jan over 25+ years ago when we were both based and serving in Aldershot. She was an awesome, beautiful, bright, funny, inspirational person then, and it was obvious she was going to do well in her life and career; as she so proved to us all!
Over the years our paths crossed frequently and Jan was a great soul mate to me, always ready to impart useful and sensible advice about anything and everything. We were last based together at JHQ in Rheindahlen where Jan was pretty much the life and soul, as well as the main instigator of all Mess fun events!
Anyone who met Jan will never forget her, a great selfless human who in her life achieved so much.
Like all of the many friends and close acquaintances we make in the Army, we develop a 'see you soon/next time' mentality or coping strategy, imagining you will meet again probably at Army/Navy Rugby or some other event. You never contemplate that the last time you chat to, or see the person it might be the last! So there we are. On my last day in the Reg Army (19 Jan 2019) Brig Jan was on the phone with my then line manager at HQ Home Comd. I now so totally regret not saying hello! So many questions, far too young, why??? Goodbye, my friend. My life was enriched knowing you and I do so hope you are at peace. Your friend, Paul (AKA Paddy).
