Patricia SHERRATT

SHERRATT Patricia (Pat) Mrs Patricia (Pat) Sherratt, age 85, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Boarbank Hall, in Grange-over-Sands, on March 15th with the sun shining and the daffodils in bloom. Pat was born in Ashton-under-Lyne, the first born to late Elizabeth and Harry Hardy. She is the Mum to 3 daughters: Elizabeth, Joanne & Sarah; the Nana to Emma, Jonathan, Gareth, Joss & Sam; the grandma to Ellen & Ewan and the Great-Nana to Halle & Jacob. She is also the God-Mother to Terrence. Pat was a strong, independent, intelligent, kind, witty, fun, generous, loving and all round extraordinary woman. She had a remarkable career in nursing, and it was a calling from the age of 6. She was a Ward Sister, a Theatre Nurse, a Mid-Wife, a District Nurse, Trainer of the next generation of District Nurses, a Macmillan Nurse and also founder of the Windermere Macmillan Drop-In. The District Nurse cottage at Hannakin, Hawkshead was often used as an A & E station for locals & holiday-makers. She was also family's and friend's first port of call for medical advice. She loved owls and definitely was a wise one. Pat was a globe trotter and adventurer. She travelled with friends and by herself to Europe, North America, Canada, Asia, Africa and Australasia. She loved walking in Scotland, the Highlands and Pitlochry and refered to that part of the planet as her spiritual home. She gave Delia Smith and Mary Berry a run for their money, and was a wonderful cook and baker. All food and drinks were prepared with love. She was a keen gardener and grew beautiful sweet peas. She was also a good seamstress. She loved music, the theatre, books, radio, comedy and art. She was an all round entertainer and story teller. She always kept up-to-date with current affairs and was knowledgable about politics, history, science and culture. She loved tennis, and Wimbledon was always a highlight in the year. She was a feminist and a philosopher. She had great taste and dress sense. Dearly loved by her family, friends, colleagues and patients. Once met never forgotten. She made a difference to many lives. Her funeral service will be held at Beetham Hall Crematorium on Monday 30th March at 12.30pm. Instead of flowers, Pat would prefer donations to the Sjogren's charity. Due to the current health crisis, we as the family understand that many of you will not be able to, nor should attend the funeral. Nurse Sherratt's orders. All enquires to Saunders & Son Ltd. West Winds, Allithwaite Road, Grange-over-Sands. Tel: 015395 32566.

I have fond memories of visiting Pat when I worked at Sight Advice South Lakes. Pat was a popular member of our Windermere support group. My thoughts are with you. Scott Hemsley
