THOMPSON Marjorie Aged 98, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, on 4 January 2021. Marjorie is the much loved mother of Julie, second 'Mum' to Philip, cherished 'Nanna T' to Derrian, a treasured great-grandma to Sam, Poppy and Jenson and a dearly loved aunt. Marjorie lived an independent life in her beloved Lake District for over 70 years. She loved birds, dogs and Katie the cat. Saving electricity, recycling and not wasting anything were her personal contributions to the battle against climate change. Avoiding new purchases, she attended rummage sales, visited charity shops and had volunteered at Oxfam. A vegetarian and vegan cook in her twenties, she enjoyed the many cookery programmes on television, making notes as she watched. A life-long lover of books and reading, she also kept up to date with current affairs, reading the Sunday newspaper from cover to cover, passing on cuttings to her family, and was knowledgeable about world politics, history and culture. Listening to the World Service, Radio 4, PM's Questions and watching Andrew Marr, BBC Dateline, and Newsnight provided the framework for her life during the past year. She also loved watching sport cricket and tennis in particular and Wimbledon was a highlight of her year. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Enquiries c/o Fishwicks Funeral Service 015395 63108.
