WIPER Eileen Martha (nee Kershaw) On Monday 9th May 2022 aged 94. Eileen died peacefully after a short illness in Heron Hill Care Home Kendal. Eileen was a devoted wife to Harry Wiper (deceased) of Robert Wipers Kendal Mint Cake. Eileen was born and educated in Morecambe and was a former Mayoress of Morecambe Borough Council 1961 1962. Eileen trained and worked at Morecambe Electrics as a shorthand typist secretary, most of her working life she held the position of secretary to the Manager chief editor to the Westmorland Gazette. Eileen was passionate about music, she was an established singer, pianist, and violinist, which she devoted most of her spare time to the Kendal amateur operatic and dramatic society, and the Westmorland orchestra. Eileen was a good all-round athlete, in her youth she won the Victor Ludorum, and was the youngest member to play competitive tennis for The Kendal Tennis Club, retiring at aged 77 due to an ankle injury becoming the eldest member to play competitive tennis. Eileen leaves behind her sister Janet, nieces and nephews, Julie, Stephen, Ann, Sarah, Donald, great-nieces, and nephews, Natalie, Freddie, Hanna, Joshua, Matthew, Harry, Abbie, great-great-niece Gracey May. The service will be held at Stricklandgate Methodist Church Kendal on Tuesday 24th May at 1.00pm. Donations if desired for the Animal Rescue Cumbria.
