The South Lakeland District Council (Reorganisation of Community Governance) Order 2020

Notice is hereby given that South Lakeland District Council has made a Reorganisation Order relating to parishes and wards within the district Following a Community Governance Review.

We have made the below Order and it is available for public inspection at the South Lakeland House, Lowther Street, Kendal, Cumbria LA9 4UF during normal office hours until 31 March 2020. The Order includes plans showing the changes.

The effect of this Order is to:

1. Amend the number of councillors to be elected to the parish of Arnside from 11 to 8; this to take effect on the Ordinary Day of election of councillors in 2023;



2. Abolish the existing wards of Dent and Cowgill of the parish of Dent and that the Dent Parish Council shall become an un-warded parish; to come into effect on the Ordinary Day of election of councillors in 2023;



3.1. Amalgamate the existing parish of Fawcett Forest and Whitwell and Selside to:



3.2. Constitute a new parish of Selside and Fawcett Forest;



3.3. The existing parish of Fawcett Forest and Whitwell and Selside will cease to exist;



3.4. Set out the annual meeting of the new parish of Selside and Fawcett Forest to be held in 2020; that the meeting shall take place between 01 March 2020 and 01 June 2020; and



3.5. To come into effect on 01 April 2020.



4.1. Amend the numbers of councillors to be elected to the parish of Lower Allithwaite from 15 to 11;



4.2. Divide the wards of Lower Allithwaite into two wards which is to be named Allithwaite and Cartmel with Upper Holker;



4.3. Amend the numbers of councillors to be elected to the wards of Allithwaite and Cartmel with Upper Holker to 6 and 5 parish councillors respectively;



4.4. Amend the elections for all parish councillors for the parish of Lower Allithwaite to be held simultaneously on the Ordinary Day of election of District councillors in 2022;



5. Amend the elections for all parish councillors for the parish of Lower Holker to be held simultaneously on the Ordinary Day of election of District councillors in 2022;



6. Amend the elections for all parish councillors for the parish of Skelwith to be held simultaneously on the Ordinary Day of election of District councillors for Ambleside and Grasmere ward; and



7. Amend the term of office; that for every parish councillors elected on the Ordinary Day of election of councillors in year 2020 for the parish of Skelwith shall be three years and that the following election shall take place in year 2023 for a term of four years and then continue according to the established system of parish elections every four years;



This Order comes into effect on 1 April 2020.
