Local Authorities (Members' Allowances) (England) Regulations 2003

Notice is hereby given by Shadow Authority for Westmorland and Furness pursuant to Regulation 22 (1) (b) of the Local Authorities (Members' Allowances) (England) Regulations 2003 that it has received recommendations from an Independent Remuneration Panel in respect of the Members' Allowances Scheme for the Westmorland and Furness Shadow Authority. At its meeting to be held on 17 May 2022, the Shadow Authority for Westmorland and Furness will consider the recommendations of the Independent Remuneration Panel and if the scheme should be recommended for adoption.

The main features of the Independent Remuneration Panel's recommendations are as follows:-

- No Councillor shall receive more than one SRA;

- Dependant Carer's Allowance payable based upon a reimbursement of actual receipted costs up to £9.50 per hour up to a maximum of £2,000.00 per annum;

- No Members entitled to currently participate in the Pension Scheme;

- No Co opted Member Allowance scheme;

- Details of the Allowances, Subsistence and Travel expenses are set out below:

Travel Expenses
Rail  Amount of standard class fare at cheapest rate available
Taxi  The actual fare and any reasonable gratuity paid
Private vehicle  The mileage rate for travel by car to be in accordance with the maximum rates set by HMRC without attracting a tax charge
Cars and Vans  45p per mile (first 10,000 miles) 25p per mile (over 10,000 miles)
Motorcycles  24p per mile
Bicycles  20p per mile
Air  The ordinary fare by regular service and expenditure incurred on tolls, ferries, parking.
