A FURNESS business has been awarded a contract to supply critical systems to a Liverpool hospital.

Ulverston-based Bender UK will be equipping 18 operating theatres in Royal Liverpool University Hospital with critical care power systems and touch-screen theatre control panels.

The landmark £335 million redevelopment of the Royal Liverpool University Hospital will create the largest all single patient room hospital in England when it is completed in 2017.

Carillion is the main contractor for construction of the new hospital and awarded the contract to Bender UK for isolated power systems and uninterruptible power systems with touch screen control.

Managing director Gareth Brunton explained: “Our vast experience of hospital electrical systems and a proven track record in delivering large complex projects means that Bender UK is able to make a significant contribution to the healthcare sector in terms of meeting challenging deadlines and adding value at the specification and installation stages.”

Construction of the new 12-storey hospital, alongside the existing building on Prescot Street, began back in February 2014.

It will contain 646 beds, individual en-suite rooms, spread across 23 wards, a 40-bed critical care unit and 18 operating theatres.

Once the new hospital is constructed, the existing buildings will be demolished. In its place, there are plans to develop the Liverpool Health Campus, which will consist of 200,000 square feet of space.

Once the project is completed the Bender UK service team will provide annual maintenance, 24/7 technical support and a rapid response call out service 365 days of the year.
