TICKETS have gone on sale for a classical concert towards renovating a village church.

The singers of Cumbrian vocal group Herdwyck Consort are to perform the fundraiser for St John's Church, Levens, on Sunday, September 29, at 3pm.

As lay minister Pam Martin told the Gazette, the concert is to take place at the nearby St Peter's Church in Heversham.

The venue has been chosen because, by then, scaffolding is likely to have gone up inside Levens church so it can be replastered.

The place of worship, which dates back to 1828, has been dried out for a complete redecoration.

Herdwyck Consort's programme for September 29 is entitled I Sing of A Maiden and will feature choral music for the Virgin Mary, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century

Tickets can be purchased on the door or in advance by emailing pammartin47@gmail.com or calling 015395-60441 (adults £10, 11-18s £5, under 11s free).

Refreshments will be available afterwards; donations welcomed.
