COME weekend and Kendal hosts the prestigious Christmas Craft market.

Running at the Brewery Arts Centre from tomorrow night (Friday) until Sunday (December 1), the grand gathering of talented artisans who produce art, craft, food and drink, "is much more than an art and craft fair," according to organiser and well respected artist Jan Huntley-Peace: "We work hard to provide something special," explains Jan. "Especially this year having an extra exhibiting space, the fabulous Warehouse Gallery and an Artisan festive food market in the Brewery garden.

"We are so excited at being able to bring new artists and craftspeople to Kendal. Exhibitors are selected for their high levels of expertise in a particular medium or craft. While we welcome back regulars such as Jamie Barnes, and Iain Childs, it's fantastic to introduce ceramicists Carolyn Marr and Catriona Archibald for the first time as well as 'Leaf' Deborah Dawn, who creates unique botanical eco prints onto silk and wool producing the most beautiful wraps, scarves and wall hangings."

Jan, who produces beautiful jewellery and delicate porcelain inspired by vintage lace and birds, has worked with Zandra Rhodes, David and Elizabeth Emanuel and Norman Hartnell and is no stranger to local art events.

"I feel strongly about the strength of art and craft in Cumbria and feel privileged to be able to bring so many talented professionals and especially so many for the first time, together at a single event, providing unique, beautiful and designer-made for gifts especially in the run up to Christmas," adds Jan. "Meeting and talking with the artists themselves is really special and Craft Market Kendal caters for all tastes and interests."

Among those featured are Morag Macpherson with her limited edition textiles and art wear, Kim Tillyer who uses cyanotype printing to create bespoke paper lampshades and textile design and Sophie Martin’s quirky illustrations of the local landscape.

As usual during the three-day CMK feast some artists will be demonstrating their skills and there will be live music throughout.

Open Friday, 5.30pm-8.30pm; Saturday, 10am-5pm and Sunday, noon-5pm.
