DO YOU know the secret to the perfect Victoria sponge?

Top bakers are being invited to come forward as a charity event seeks to find the best cake in the Lake District.

The newly-revived cake competition will return to the fair in the grounds of St Martin and St Mary Primary School, Windermere, on August 8.

Funds raised at the fair will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The cakes will be auctioned off on the day, with those who purchase them required to judge and review them in a Covid-friendly way of holding the competition.

The winner, who will receive a prize, will then be determined.

Jen Braithwaite, who has helped organise the competition, said:  "Teenage Cancer Trust puts young people in the best possible place - physically, mentally and emotionally - for their cancer treatment and beyond."

The theme for the cake competition is 'joy', which can be interpreted as the bakers see fit.

Cakes should be brought to the event on the day.
