THE Orange Tree at Kirkby Lonsdale has developed a somewhat legendary reputation locally.

It is renowned and much-loved for the scrumptious steaks, grills and burgers which are on sale there.

This charming pub in the town centre has a number of special offers through the week, including the always popular steak night on Wednesdays, where rumps and sirloins are reduced to £8.95.

But there is much more on offer besides, including everything from hearty pub meals to light lunchtime dishes, such as jacket potatoes and sandwiches and lots in between.

Feeling pretty peckish when I visited with my partner, I decided to pick a starter and plumped for the nacho chips with melted cheese, salsa and soured cream (£4.95).

My partner chose the potato skins, filled with cheese and bacon and served with soured cream and side salad (£4.95).

The starters were delicious and we both had high hopes for the mains.

My partner decided on the cheese burger (£4.95) but I went one better, and chose the USA burger (£8.95).

This was my idea of heaven - two burgers, aged cheddar, salad, mayonnaise and sweetcorn relish, on a soft white bap.

Ever since I ate the USA burger, I have been thinking about it. It was honestly burger perfection. Perfectly cooked and the most tasty beef you could imagine.

I also added a portion of chips (£2.50) - these were fish and chip shop style, which are always the best in my humble opinion.

It was all washed down with a bottle of the alcohol free lager, Becks Blue (£2).

Having settled the very reasonable bill, I left the pub knowing that I would return soon.

* The total cost of our meal for two, excluding drinks, was £26.30
