My partner and I have eaten at The New Inn many times and have always loved our meals, so we never need an excuse to sample the delicious choices of offer.

However, with recent menu changes there was even more reason to make a visit, and it seemed the ideal place to go when family rang to say they were stopping by for lunch.

As ever, the staff could not be more helpful and friendly and were attentive throughout, always making sure we were happy.

I decided to go for a tuna steak with garlic king prawns which was absolutely gorgeous. I have to be honest, I had never tried such a steak before, but I am now a convert, and the prawns were just scrumptious.

I thought perhaps it might be a tad dry without a sauce but the garlic butter/oil oozed through into my rice and peas and added to the whole meal.

Ross went for the ‘surf and turf’ which included, as he described it, a ‘fat juicy sirloin’ with locally sourced Morecambe Bay potted shrimps on top.

He chose to have new potatoes and veg with it and I like that alongside that and my choices you can also have chips or salad, meaning you can really tailor the meal to suit you.

We also had a vegetarian on our table and she had plenty of choice, settling on the cheese and onion pie, which must have been good because she ate every mouthful.

And even the young one with us was pleased with his favourite fish and chips and munched through it all – particularly impressive because it was one of the biggest children’s portions I have seen.

For dessert we took advantage of the special offer which included three puddings from the menu for £8.95. I have found that with such deals you usually have a limited selection and get smaller sized portions, but this was not the case.

Between four of us we tried jam sponge, syrup sponge and a banoffee-style cheesecake, all which came with lashings of cream.

This was the perfect end to a faultless meal and the whole experience demonstrated to us why The New Inn truly deserved its 2013 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence Award.

* The cost for two mains and three desserts was £40.
