Miss Weeton, Governess and Traveller edited by Alan Roby, £20
DAUGHTER of a Lancaster salve ship captain, Nelly Weeton, spent many years as a governess to wealthy families in Ambleside. Written in solitude, her letters, journal entries and other autobiographical writings transport the reader through Georgian Lancaster and beyond. Her original writings were first discovered in a Wigan bookshop in the 1920s and published in two volumes.
Edited by Alan Roby, this new edition has been extensively researched offering a more rounded picture of Nelly Weeton's life and will be available from local bookstores.
