APPLEBY residents turned out in the sunshine to soak up the atmosphere at the town’s carnival – an event which was hailed a ‘great success’.

Representatives from local organisations put their heads together to create floats which paraded through the town at the weekend, and shop windows were decorated in a fairytales and children’s stories theme.

Mayor Andy Connell said: “We were very fortunate with the weather and the endeavours of the carnival committee in particular Paul Naisbitt and Sarah Smith, who worked tirelessly. Lots of trouble and effort went into the floats and shop windows so we were very pleased.”
