THE name Green Door is synonymous with some of the region's best contemporary art and over the September 29/30 weekend many members of the artists' collective will be blazing a creative trail across the region.

In fact, 63 GD artists will be gracing the much anticipated Green Door Art Trail in 26 venues across south Cumbria and north Lancashire. The depth and breadth of members’ impressive and must-see work will be on display, including ceramics, drawing, glass, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, textiles and wood, as well as more bijou items such as jewellery and greetings cards.

Trail venues range from Burton-in-Kendal, across to Grange-over-Sands, Coniston and Ulverston with group shows at the Courtroom at Preston Patrick, the Athenaum at Leasgill, near Milnthorpe, Greenodd Village Hall, and Green Door's own studios on Market Place at Kendal.

Among those showing work will be printmaker Sue David, opening her workspace at the Market Place studios. Sue is inspired by the Arctic, the weather and the shipping forecast, and currently creating a series of monotypes and collages which reference the landscapes and adventures experienced during many summers spent exploring the north of Greenland.

Another high profile and well established GD artist is Rosie Wates. Rosie will be exhibiting paintings, what she describes as "theatre boxes," collages, photography, and drawings at the Courtroom. Her fascinating work plays between the abstract and the figurative creating mysterious spaces where dramas unfold. Stories, places visited and imagined, memories of times past and dreams future.

Work by painter and ceramicist Leonie Rutter will be displayed at the Athenaeum at Leasgill. Leonie's acrylic paintings range from landscapes to abstract patterns. Her wheel thrown ceramics are organic and semi-sculptural. Some are burnished, and saggar fired while others are delicately carved and glazed.

Raring to go, Green Door’s administrator Janice Benson said that the trail was one of the highlights of the Green Door year: "This year just over half of our members are taking part and we have a record number of venues. Some artists will be giving demonstrations and all of them are looking forward to talking about their work and how they create it. All trail venues are open on the Saturday and Sunday and a number are also opening on the Friday, September 28, especially in the evening, so everyone can get a head start on their trail visiting."
