INTERNATIONALLY recognised and billed as Europe's number one western swing band, the Swing Commanders take well crafted songs from the 1930s to 1950s, from American songbook classics to western swing and novelty songs, and overlay them with lush vocal harmonies and hot solos. The rhythms, varying from ballads to jive to quicksteps, are great for dances, theatre shows, and parties.

And for those who want to get into the 'swing' the Victoria Hall Support Group is bringing the mighty movers and shakers to Grange-over-sands on Saturday, October 13 (7pm).

The band have appeared, often headlining, at most of the UK's top vintage and country music festivals. They are loved by fans of jazz, country, swing and blues, and apparently find it easy to fill dancehalls with lindy hoppers, modern jivers, line, partner and social dancers. They play all over the UK, regularly tour Europe and when they can, cross the Atlantic to visit the United States.

In fact, such is the commanders popularity, that the Victoria Hall concert organisers have already had requests for tickets by folk from Canada, who will be in the region, for the event.

Members of the band have a wealth of experience under their musical belts, from bar room to classical concert hall, as well as an understanding of dance and theatre. The entertaining results are a stage show that is technically precise and wildly entertaining.

Prepare to be amazed by the Swing Commanders energetic showmanship, the instrument swapping, the intricate arrangements, and sophisticated vocal blend.

Altogether, fine songs played joyfully and brilliantly.

Tickets are available from Grange Information Centre on 015395-34026.
