GREEN Door artists Ann Marie Foster, Geraldine Walkington, Barbara Cropper, Priscilla Edwards, Angie Mitchell and Christine Stanford are exhibiting as part of the Northern Collective exhibition at Theatre by the Lake.

Comprising 16 artists from Cumbria and beyond, the group regularly meets to observe, be inspired by and make drawings in a variety of venues, ranging from Lake District landscapes to cultural sites such as Kendal's Abbot Hall Art Gallery and Sprint Mill, Burneside, and its unique collection of local memorabilia. The artists will showcase a rich diversity of themes and artistic processes including painting, printmaking, textiles, collage and assemblage. As well as expansive landscape forms, themes explored in Northern Collective include plant structures, texture and surface markings, and flora and fauna found in the natural environment.

Running in the Keswick theatre's Circle Gallery until November 11, its the artists first exhibition under the Northern Collective header.

Printmaker Ann Marie Foster said the focus of her work shifts between the microscopic, such as the fragile architecture of a decaying leaf, to the expansive markings of landscape as in the scarred furrows exposed by estuary tides. "I invite the viewer to investigate the fusion of colour, imagery and texture and discover a personal connection that resonates with their own thoughts and emotions."

Geraldine Walkington - also a printmaker - explained that her work explored experimental printmaking, drawing on her other interests in ceramics, textiles and painting: "My work captures moments of journeys in the Alps, and fell running in the Lakes. With inspiration from rock, mountain and coastlines, I mix techniques and disciplines to create very personal images."

The Circle Gallery at Theatre by the Lake is open from 9.30am, Monday until Sunday.
