POEM and a Pint is back with chapter and verse in conjunction with Dalton Litfest at the community centre on Nelson Street in Dalton-in-Furness.

PP hosts another evening of poetry and music on Saturday, November 3 (7.30pm), this time around featuring Manchester poet David Borrott, noted for his fine attention to detail and his ability to look afresh at the varied facets of the world we inhabit and at the idiosyncrasies of the inhabitants themselves. David will wax lyrical from his pamphlet Porthole, his 2015 debut full of poems fresh and rich.

David's words possess a fierce wonder, often with undertones of a dark humour, that become for the reader portholes into other lives. From Lowryesque visions of his adopted metropolis of Manchester to domestic scenes such as emptying the dishwasher and, in Southern Cross, to the disorientation of a sudden awakening on a long haul flight, where the plane becomes a corridor of stale air swollen with the helium of sleep.

David was born and grew up in Ilford, going on to study philosophy at York University. However, he's lived in Lancashire with his partner and their three sons long enough to become regarded as one of the rising stars of the northern poetry scene. Poem and a Pint regulars may remember his outstanding performance three years ago at Bardsea when he read some of the poems as part of the 2015 Quiet Compere tour.

Before Porthole was published, David’s poetry had appeared in the anthology Watermark by Flax Books and in Cast: the Poetry Business Book of New Contemporary Poets.

The PP gig will see David supported by a poetic line-up of well known local wordsmiths and open mic readings (sign up at the door for available slots).

Music will be courtesy of Lakeland four piece Equal Measures, whose wide-ranging set includes everything from indie style folk to what's described as 'piratey' pop, laced with awesome riffs and funky bass lines, sweet sounding percussion and beautiful harmonies.

MC for the night will be Caroline Gilfillan.

Pay at the door.
