YOU have to hand it to Jess Gillam, not only is she a staggering musical talent but she's also a whizz as a concert promoter too.

Her latest 'promotion' is on Saturday (November 3, 7.30pm) at Ulverston's Coronation Hall when she plays host, and shares the stage with, the phenomenally gifted young cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason and his equally talented piano playing sister Isata Kanneh-Mason.

Sheku Kanneh-Mason was the 2016 BBC Young Musician, a title he landed with a stunning performance of the Shostakovich Cello Concerto at London’s Barbican Hall with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. If you watched it you'll never forget it.

Since, the 19 year old's international career has fairly zipped along with engagements far and wide and his debut album Inspiration on Decca Classics propelled Sheku to number 18 in the official UK album charts, and number one in the classical chart. One of Sheku's party pieces is his own arrangement of Bob Marley's No Woman No Cry, which was also featured on the album.

He also received the Royal seal of approval as well as engage with a worldwide audience in May 2018, when he played at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at Windsor Castle.

Oh, and with his siblings, the Kanneh-Mason seven-piece ensemble, Sheku has performed in many venues across the UK, including at Marlborough House in front of Prince Charles for Commonwealth Day.

Also in the Coro spotlight for Saturday's performance, Isata was in the piano category final of the BBC Young Musician 2014, winning the Walter Todds Bursary for the most promising musician before the grand final. Isata is an undergraduate at the Royal Academy of Music, studying piano with Hamish Milne, having been awarded the prestigious Sir Elton John Scholarship. The 21-year-old performed with Elton John in Los Angeles in 2013 and has performed several times on BBC television and radio.

And so to Jess, who blew the nation's television viewers away with her BBC Proms performances. Totally captivating is probably the best way to put it not forgetting her concert jackets which are almost as dazzling as her performances.

This year has certainly been a memorable one for the Ulverston sax sensation picking up a Classic Brit Award in the Sound of Classical Poll 2018 at the Royal Albert Hall in June followed by her return to the London venue as the youngest ever female soloist to perform at the prestigious proms.

Performing as part of Radio 2's Proms in the Park before heading across to the Royal Albert Hall to join the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Sir Andrew Davis for Milhaud’s Scaramouche, and a duet with star baritone Gerald Finley, it was Jess’s fourth appearance at the Proms festival following two performances in 2017 and a cameo at the 2018 BBC Young Musician Prom celebrating 40 years of the competition which brought her into the limelight back in 2016.

She also has an album for Decca Classics in the pipeline and the UK charity Awards for Young Musicians (AYM) has recently released a new film starring Jess, who is also the charity’s youngest ever patron.

Jess records exclusively for Decca Classics and was the recipient of a Classic Brit Award

in the Sound of Classical Poll 2018 which promotes the best emerging artists and ones-to-watch in classical music.

Jess is a great ambassador for the saxophone, and first picked up the instrument at the age of seven at the Barracudas Carnival Arts Centre at Barrow.

Three incredible players bound for superstardom.
