BARROW Underground Music Society hosts the monthly Barrow R and B Club gig on Friday, November 30.

Well-known for its hefty helpings of high quality rhythm, rock and blues, centre stage for the club next week will be the seriously strong and soulful Tom Attah Acoustic Duo.

Dr Tom Attah is a practising musician, and course leader for BMus Popular Music Performance at Leeds Arts University. His PhD was awarded by University of Salford. His research interests include the effects of technology on popular music, particularly blues music and blues culture.

Tom’s teaching and blues advocacy includes workshops, seminars, lectures and recitals delivered to learning institutions in the United Kingdom and mainland Europe. Before being appointed to LAU, he taught undergraduate modules at University of Salford and BIMM Manchester. As a guitarist and singer, he performs solo, with an acoustic duo and as part of an electric band.

Tom’s solo acoustic work includes his own original blues compositions and has led to performances at major music festivals around Europe, including major stages at the Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, the Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival, and Blues Autour Du Zinc.

This Saturday's BUMS night stars the Incredible Electric Discotheque with DJ Gripper plus Sai-Man (Vinyl Cellar).

Coming up on Friday, December 7 are one of the breakout bands at this year's Kendal Calling, The K's, plus support from hot local favourites, Run and Hyde.

The K's debut single Sarajevo was an instant hit on music streaming sites, picking up fans and playlists alike and was quickly followed by their first headline show at Manchester’s Deaf Institute selling out two months in advance.
