ONE of Manchester’s biggest indie rock bands is swapping the arenas of the city for the intimate surroundings of Kendal’s Brewery Arts Centre in the spring.

The Slow Readers Club, often dubbed "the biggest band you’ve never heard of", have achieved acclaim and a huge loyal fanbase for their powerful live shows.

They have attracted sell-out crowds at Manchester’s Albert Hall and the O2 Apollo, which holds more than 3,500 fans.

They also earned themselves a support slot for iconic Manchester indie band James at the city’s Castlefield Bowl and they played the main stage at last year’s Kendal Calling festival at Lowther Deer Park.

The Slow Readers Club are embarking on a major 32-date UK tour, including a stop-off at Kendal's Brewery on March 2 in support of their latest album Build a Tower.

Released in May this year, it went straight into the Official UK Album Chart Top 20 at number 18; number 10 in the physical album chart; 4 in the vinyl chart; 4 in the indie album chart and number 1 in the cassette chart.

The latest single, On the TV, taken from the album has proved a hit on radio, receiving plenty of airplay from BBC 6Music and Radio X.

Formed in 2010, Readers, as they are know to their fans, have taken the long road to recognition.

Their self-titled debut album featured live favourites like One More Minute, Feet on Fire, Sirens and Block out the Sun.

But despite rave reviews they remained firmly under the radar.

However, their belief in their music, coupled with their popularity among a growing band of influential bloggers and radio presenters, kept them going.

The band, made up of Aaron Starkie (vocals), Kurtis Starkie (guitar and vocals), James Ryan (bass) and David Whitworth (drums), specialise in dark and brooding indie electro that has drawn comparisons with bands like The Killers, Interpol, and The National.

Their music feels equally at home in big arenas and festival fields as it does in intimate surroundings like the Brewery’s Malt Room.

Vocalist Aaron told the Gazette: “This is the first opportunity we’ve had to do a full-on UK tour.

"Up until this point we’ve all had day jobs to work around, but 2019 is the year we go at it properly, no more messing about.

"We’ve had tons of people ask us to play all over the UK so here we go!”
