LEVENS Choir will be in roof-raising form on Sunday, April 14 (7.30pm) at Kendal's St George’s Church, performing Bach’s five-part motet Jesu Meine Freude and Morten Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna. The two great choral works are separated in time by two and a half centuries, but share a common theme of the joy and 'eternal light' brought to the faithful through their love of Jesus. The Bach motet will be accompanied by organ and cello continuo played by Andy Plowman and Christine Dittman. Andy will also accompany the Lauridsen. Faure's delighful Cantique de Jean Racine and Laudate Dominum, a setting of Psalm 117 by the 16th century Dutch composer JP Sweelinck complete the stunning programme of choral masterpieces. Conductor Ian Jones and the outstanding choir repeat the Towards the Light concert at St Wilfrid’s Church, Melling, the following Tuesday, April 16 (7.30pm). Tickets at the door or in advance for the Kendal concert from Fantastic Kendal, 26-28 Finkle Street, Kendal, on 01539- 725139. For the Melling concert telephone 015242-21638.
