HAYDN'S Creation is the centrepiece of Ambleside and District Choral Society's spring concert on Saturday, May 4 (7.30pm).

A much-loved masterpiece that celebrates the creation of the world - the text inspired by the Bible and Milton’s Paradise Lost - the the gloriously tuneful oratorio has three parts and is scored for soprano, tenor and bass soloists, supported by chorus and orchestra.

Performed at Ambleside Parish Church, popular soprano Tracie Penwarden takes the role of Archangel Gabriel in parts one and two and Eve in part three. The tenor part, portraying Archangel Uriel, is sung by another choral society regular, Robert Thompson, and making his Ambleside debut will be Ashley Kirkham, singing bass as Archangel Raphael as well as the part of Adam. South Cumbria Ensemble will provide the accompaniment led by Mark Wilson.

Tickets at the door or available from choir members.
