PETER Blaskett and Tim Leeson's joint Mindfields exhibition opens today (Monday, July 1).

On show at Ulverston's Natterjacks until August 30, the exhibition brings together two well known names from the region's art circles, both with a keen interest in modernist and post modernist art.

As well as a painter, Peter owns the popular Signature Gallery at Kendal. His primary medium is paint on board, often large scale powerful pieces underpinned by a strong concept. His sizeable abstracts were used as a backdrop on the television drama Safe House, which starred Christopher Eccleston.

Ulverston-based Tim hails originally from Barrow and is one of Cumbria's most versatile and prolific artists. For Mindfields he's produced one large self portrait and five new paintings revolving around the theme of Portals. All is work for the exhibition is oil on paper. His self portrait was created using his fingers.

Tim says that it's a real privilege for him to exhibit alongside Peter. "Not only is he a fantastic artist but he's also a very close friend," adds Tim. "And I'm sure this worked in our favour as we have worked blind from each other so we won't see each others work until preview night. That element of surprise excited us both."

Natterjacks is located at 34, Queen Street, Ulverston.

Open Monday until Friday, 5pm-10pm.
